Black Apple is a collection of stark powerful images by photographer Thatcher Hullerman Cook. The project was shot a the edges of the Fergana Valley in Kyrgyzstan, a remote central Asian region of the former Soviet Empire. He travelled the region “alone by bus from village to village in search of coal mines, brothels, and farms.” He “sought out the people who called this harsh land their home.”
The book was published in 2012 by Obscura Press in Rockland Maine. The 62 page book is 11×9.5″ and has 62 images. More information is available at obscuraweb.org
